5 Must-See Workplace Safety Videos

1. Workplace Safety for 2019

This video comes from the Accident Help Zone and outlines five workplace safety tips for 2019.

From the video description: “Let’s face it; nobody wants to be injured at work. Even though some paid time off might sound appealing at first, most people give up that idea as soon as the pain and suffering of the injury kicks in. While a lot of your safety in any given job is the responsibility of your employer, there are best practices that you can employ to help prevent on the job injuries before they happen.”

Quiz your employees after showing the video to ensure retention.

2. Take Time To Take Care

This is a short but impactful video from the Workplace Safety and Health Council intended to “to draw awareness to the prevention of machinery-related hand and finger injuries at the workplace.”

This video reinforces the importance of proper lock-out/tag-out procedures, which can also be reviewed at the time of watching.

As a refresher, a lock-out/tag-out program helps prevent contact with a hazard while performing tasks that require the removal, bypassing, or deactivation of safeguarding devices, the unintended release of hazardous energy, and the unintended start-up or motion of machinery, equipment, or processes.

3. 10 Commandments of Workplace Safety

An Australian production from the Occupational Safety and Health Association, this video carries universal appeal. It contains 10 commandments for workplace safety that, if followed, will truly benefit everyone on the job.

Here’s an opportunity to review important questions from the Employee Safety Checklist:

  1. Have all your workers completed basic occupational health and safety awareness training?
  2. Did your supervisors complete basic occupational health and safety training for supervisors?
  3. Has your staff received WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) training?
  4. Did you conduct a workplace hazard analysis to determine other training requirements for your staff?

If the answer to any of these questions is “no,” contact ACUTE today to find out what steps you need to take to meet the requirements for employers in Ontario under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

4) Safety Culture

This video from Montana explains how workplace safety is more than just a pair of gloves or earplugs – it’s a culture. It not only features important information, but it’s also presented with some pretty neat animation!

Use this video to kick start a discussion on how you can improve the safety culture at work, and as a reminder to have all required postings up around the workplace.

Please note that depending on your workplace, you may have further training/and or posting requirements. You might also want to post various posters sold by private companies. Be sure to contact ACUTE for further information and to arrange for training for your staff.

5) Fall Prevention

Falls are among the most common causes of injuries and deaths in the construction industry.

This video is for increasing safety awareness for workers in the construction industry, and to outline some general fall prevention best-practices.

The purpose of a fall protection training program includes:

  1. Strengthen workplace safety culture by elevating the profile and importance of preventing falls from heights.
  2. Provide workers who may be exposed to the hazard of falling with adequate knowledge about fall hazards and general safety practices to work safely at heights.
  3. Provide workers who use personal fall protection equipment with sufficient knowledge about its purpose and use; and
  4. Reduce the number of fall-from-heights incidents, injuries, and fatalities.
