Working at Heights – 8 hours

The ACUTE Working at Heights training  is CPO approved and provides theory as well as hands-on practical training and evaluation facilitated by highly skilled and competent instructors.

Confined Space Entry Awareness – 8 hours

Confined Space Entry Awareness will familiarize you with the requirements of Ontario Regulation 632/05 – Confined Spaces. It will provide entrants, attendants and competent persons the skills and training required to recognize confined space entry risks and how to establish measured and corresponding controls.

Confined Space Rescue – 8 hours

The Confined Space Rescue program builds on the content of the Confined Space Entry Awareness course to train participants on the safety considerations and how to safely perform rescue from confined space.

  • Protection of personnel from hazards within the confined space

Elevating Work Platforms – 8 hours

The Elevating Work Platforms (EWP) course will prepare you for the safe use of EWPs. The theory module covers all classes of EWPs, while the practical module covers only the type of EWP used in your workplace.

Transportation of Dangerous Goods – 8 hours

The Transportation of Dangerous Goods Training course will present you with a thorough overview of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulation (TDGR).

Training Topics Covered:

  • Definition of the 9 classes of dangerous goods and their associated hazards.
  • Shipping names, classes, UN numbers and packing groups for the dangerous goods that are normally encountered on the job.
  • Safety marks such as labels and placards that are used to identify the different classes of dangerous goods that are normally encountered on the job.
  • Knowledge of the information that must be on a shipping document.
  • The requirements regarding mixed loads and the need for segregation of incompatible dangerous goods.
  • The proper selection and use of means of containment for the dangerous goods.
  • Proper use of all equipment that is used in the handling, offering for transport and/or transportation of dangerous goods.
  • What to do if the shipping documents, placards, labels, other safety marks or means of containment seem inadequate or incorrect.
  • What constitutes an accidental release and the reporting requirements if an accident happens.
  • The requirements regarding mixed loads and the need for segregation of incompatible dangerous goods.
  • Emergency Response Assistance Plans (ERAP) requirements if a plan is required.

40 Hour HAZWOPER – 40 hours

The 40-hour HAZWOPER training program covers the requirements of the OSHA HAZWOPER standard (29CFR 1910.120). This standard sets out the minimum training requirements for site workers on hazardous waste sites, environmental remediation and emergency projects in the United States of America.

HAZWOPER Training

8 Hour HAZWOPER – 8 hours

Every year after your initial 40-hour HAZWOPER training requirement has been successfully completed, you must update your training. ACUTE’s 8-hour HAZWOPER course meets the requirements outlined in OSHA HAZWOPER standard (29CFR 1910.120) for 8 (eight) hours of annual refresher training.

Program Content

The training program is composed of topics and can be customized to focus on topics that pertain to workplace hazards for workers associated with hazardous waste / materials operations.

It is offered to those who wish to maintain a current 29 CFR 1910.120 HAZWOPER certification.

Joint Health and Safety Committee Part 1 – 24 hours

The Joint Health and Safety Committee Part 1 course is required training for members of a Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC). A JHSC is a committee of at least two persons, who represent the workers and the employer at a workplace. Their primary role is to identify workplace health and safety problems and bring them to the attention of the employer.

Training Topics Covered:

The Joint Health and Safety Committee Part 1 course involves training in health and safety law, as well as the identification, assessment, and control of hazards.

Standards for this training are set by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development. The ministry also certifies JHSC members who complete approved training programs.

Joint Health and Safety Committee Part 2 – 16 hours

Like Part 1, the Joint Health and Safety Committee Part 2 course is required training for JHSC members.

Information About This Training:

You need to complete your JHSC Certification Part 2 within 1 year of completing your JHSC Certification Part 1 training.

The Occupational Health and Safety Act, Subsection 9(12) requires most workplaces with 20 or more workers to have at least one worker and one management person serve as certified members of a workplace Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC).

Workplaces with more than five but less than 20 workers are not usually required to have a JHSC. Instead, workers must select a person from among themselves to be a health and safety representative.

Joint Health and Safety Committee Refresher – 8 hours

If you are a certified member of a JHSC, you are required to take this JHSC refresher course every 3 years in order to continue being recognized as a certified JHSC member.

Information About This Training:

The JHSC Refresher is a one day course that reviews the concepts you learned in Part 1 and Part 2 of the JHSC Certification training.

It will also update you on any changes to the Act, Regulations and relevant health and safety standards.

You will also have an opportunity to share JHSC best practices, and to discuss JHSC challenges and potential resolutions.
