Introduction to Fall Arrest Training

What is fall arrest training?

Fall arrest is defined as the safe stopping of a person that is already falling. Fall arrest training (also know as fall protection) will therefore teach you what to in the event of a fall while working at heights.

It’s important to note, however, that this is not a replacement for Working At Heights Training; that course is required for all construction project workers under Ontario Regulation 213/91.

There are several personal fall arrest systems. Knowing the situations to employ these tools is a primary step in getting ready to protect yourself while working at height.

Who should sign up for fall arrest training?

Employers, supervisors, and workers who may work at heights in any workplace other than construction projects will find this training beneficial. Those workplaces include industrial, agricultural and mining operations, health care and residential facilities, and even office settings for custodians.

Without proper fall arrest training, the likelihood of employee injury increases. It’s therefore imperative that you help your employees prepare for scenarios that have not been encountered.

The purpose of a fall arrest training program is fourfold:

  1. Strengthen workplace safety culture by elevating the profile and importance of preventing falls from heights.
  2. Provide workers who may be exposed to the hazard of falling with adequate knowledge about fall hazards and general safety practices to work safely at heights.
  3. Provide workers who use personal fall protection equipment with sufficient knowledge about its purpose and use; and
  4. Reduce the number of fall-from-heights incidents, injuries, and fatalities.

If any of those resonate with you and your workplace, sign up today.

ACUTE offers world-class training at a first-class facility to help simulate new scenarios to prepare staff for unexpected falls.
