Work Safety Training Courses
1. Construction Industry
Working at Heights is a vital course for the construction industry
The Construction Projects Regulation requires all workers who use/wear fall protection to have received Working at Heights training from a training facility that is approved by the Ontario Chief Prevention Officer as an Approved Training Provider.
Working at Heights Refresher:
Every 3 years you are required to take a Working at Heights refresher course in order to remain compliant with the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, Immigration, Training, and Skills Development.
Scaffolding and Ladder:
Despite the dangers, working on a scaffold can be straightforward and safe if you are properly trained and follow safe assembly, use, and dismantling procedures. Knowing the rules and regulations as set out by the Ontario government is in your best interest if you are working on a construction site with ladders and scaffolding.
Elevating Work Platforms:
If you use devices such as scissor lifts and boom lifts then EWP training is necessary
The Elevating Work Platforms (EWP) course has been constructed to prepare you, as an operator, for the safe use of EWPs. If you use devices such as scissor lifts and boom lifts, then this training course is necessary.
The theory module covers all classes of EWPs, while the practical module covers only the type of EWP used in your workplace. Your employer is responsible for providing you with training and supervision and to protect the health and safety of their workers using these devices.
Excavation, Trenching and Shoring:
ACUTE’s training program has been designed for those that excavate or work in trenches or excavations deeper than 1.2 metres (4 ft.). The course is designed to provide you with a comprehensive overview of legislative and practical considerations for safe and legislatively compliant excavation and trenching.
Overhead Crane:
If you use, or work near or with overhead cranes in your workplace, this is a very important training course for you to take. You will learn about legislation and guidelines, hazard awareness, basic equipment, design principles, equipment inspections, and other relevant topics relating to overhead cranes.
2. Industrial Sector
Fall protection is an important work safety training course is you work at heights
If you work at heights in an industrial setting, then you should take Fall Protection training to keep you safe. ACUTE’s Fall Protection course is designed for sectors other than the construction sector (these workers need to take the Working at Heights course). ACUTE can modify this course to specifically address the type of equipment you use in your workplace.
Respiratory Protection and Fit Testing:
This training program will teach you the legal and practical requirements for the use of respiratory protective equipment in the industrial and agricultural workplace. It includes a review of various types of respiratory protective systems. This course can be customized to ensure specific coverage of specific brands and types of respiratory systems used in your workplace.
3. Warehouse and Manufacturing
ACUTE’s Lift truck Operator course is work safety training that will provide you with the essential principles involved in the safe operation of a forklift
If you operate a lift truck, then you need to take forklift training. ACUTE’s lift truck operator training course will teach you important things such as:
- The limitations that affect truck stability
- Safe loading criteria
- Forklift hazards
- Fundamentals of handling high=risk loads
- Legal responsibilities.
This interactive 8 hour course will provide you with the essential principles involved in the safe operation of a forklift.
Elevating Work Platforms:
Elevating work platforms are often used in warehouses and manufacturing plants. You need to take proper training on this type of equipment in order to keep safe and prevent serious incidents. Your employer is responsible for providing operators with training and supervision to protect the health and safety of their workers using these devices.
Lock-Out / Tag-Out:
This training program will teach you the methods and the legislative requirements for hazardous energy control (Lockout) in the workplace. All hazardous forms of energy must be locked out, blocked or released to ensure that machinery or equipment does not turn on or move during installation, repair, or maintenance.
Transportation of Dangerous Goods:
ACUTE’s Transportation of dangerous goods training will give you a thorough overview of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulation (TDGR). TDGR provisions will be explained in simple terms to help you make sure that dangerous goods will be handled, offered for transport and transported safely.
4. Healthcare and Emergency Services
Confined Space Entry Awareness:
Confined Space Entry work safety training provides entrants, attendants and competent persons the skills and training required to recognize confined space entry risks
At times, emergency rescue workers may need to enter a confined space. This training program will familiarize you with the requirements of Ontario Regulation 632/05 – Confined Spaces.
Furthermore, the training program is intended to provide entrants, attendants and competent persons the skills and training required to recognize confined space entry risks and how to establish measured and corresponding controls.
Confined Space Rescue:
There may be times in your line of duty where you have to perform a rescue from a confined space. This work safety training program builds on the content of the Confined Space Entry Awareness course to train participants on the safety considerations and how to safely perform rescue from confined space.
Fall Protection:
If you work at heights in an emergency services setting, then you should take Fall Protection training to keep you safe. ACUTE’s Fall Protection course is designed for sectors other than the construction sector (these workers need to take the Working at Heights course). ACUTE can modify this course to specifically address the type of equipment you use in your workplace.
5. Most Workplaces
Many workplaces are required by law to have a JHSC
If your workplace meets any of the following conditions, then you are required by law to have a joint health and safety committee:
- You regularly employ 20 or more workers (You do not include workers who take part in community participation [workfare] under Ontario Works Act in your count).
- You have a construction project with 20 or more workers that is going to last 3 months or more.
- Your workplace has a designated substances regulation that applies to it, even if you are regularly employing less than 20 workers.
- Your workplace has a Director’s order issued to it under section 33 of the Ontario Works Act, even if you are regularly employing less than 20 workers.
- Your workplace or construction project has been ordered by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development to establish a JHSC committee.
- You have a farming operation that regularly employs 20 or more workers who have duties related to mushroom, greenhouse, dairy, hog, cattle, or poultry farming.
This committee is made up of both workers and representatives from employers. According to the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), at least two members of your joint health and safety committee (one representing workers and one representing persons who exercise managerial functions) need to be certified. To get certified you need to complete Part 1 and Part 2 of mandatory Joint Health and Safety Training.
Joint Health and Safety Refresher:
Any certified members of a JHSC is required to take a refresher course every 3 years in order to continue being recognized as a certified JHSC member. This one day course will review the concepts learned in Part 1 and Part 2 of the JHSC Certification process and updates you on changes to the Act, Regulations and relevant health and safety standards.
