OWWCO Approved Trainer
Did you know that ACUTE is an OWWCO approved trainer? The Ontario Wastewater Certification Office (OWWCO) provides course evaluation services to assist the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MOECC).
Certification under OWWCO means that trainers are held to high industry standards and must meet all requirements of Ontario Regulations 128/04 and 129/04.
Steps To Getting OWWCO Approval
The OWWCO lists three main reasons why getting approval is so important for operators:
- It helps ensure the protection of human health
- It helps protect the aquatic environment
- It helps with the efficient operation of the water/wastewater infrastructure
In order to gain OWWCO approval, the applicant must first sign up with the Water and Wastewater Operator Certification System (WWOCS). The WWOCS is an online system that allows operators to apply for certification and change information about their courses.
The operator can then submit an online application for each course to the OWWCO. The OWWCO will only approve courses that deal with and are related to drinking water operators.
Approved courses must:
- Be structured events
- Include clear, documented learning objectives
- Provide verification that the participant learned the material
- Be planned and provided by a qualified trainer
- Include a course evaluation form
- Include a course completion certificate given to all successful participants
Once a course gains approval, they do not stay approved indefinitely. Operators are required to meet specific course requirements and a review is conducted every three years to ensure training quality.
